Calculating energy costs for baked products

Electricity costs can be a significant part of the total production cost. To simplify this, we have created a method that lets you calculate the baking cost per product in a quick, consistent, and transparent way.

The result is more realistic cost calculations, better cost control, and a solid foundation for more profitable decision-making.

Step 1: Set Up the Basic Cost per Oven

First, you need to define the hourly cost of an oven. This only has to be done once per unique oven.

1. Go to Basic
2. Select Other Costs, under Calculation
3. Create a new group for one of your ovens — for example, “Rack Oven”
4. Add Total Cost by multiplying the oven’s power consumption by the average electricity price per kWh.
   1. Formula: price per kWh × the oven’s power consumption per hour in kWh = Total Cost
   2. Example: Total Cost = 0,15 EUR/kWh × 40 kWh = 6 EUR
5. Optional but recommended: under Description for Cost per Unit, write “Cost per hour” to make the calculation clear and easy to recognize.

Step 2: Add the Oven Cost to a Product

Once the hourly oven cost is registered, you can add the baking cost to your product calculations.

1. Go to a product
2. Select the Other Costs tab
3. Click Edit and choose one of the ovens you created
4. Under Consumption, enter the number of hours the product is baked in the oven (30 minutes = 0.5)
5. Under Nr. of products, enter how many products are baked in the oven at the same time
6. Click Save, and the electricity/baking cost has been added to the product.
